South Dakota United players shine in state quarterfinal play.

If you want to score goals, you should get a South Dakota United player.  Or two.  Or three.  During the quarterfinal matches around South Dakota Tuesday night, SDU players scored a lot of goals for their teams. In some cases, 100% of their teams’ goals.

Caelie Williams (Legacy) scored Pierre’s only goal to lift her team over top-seeded Rapid City Stevens at Rapid City.  Her goal came off a corner where she beat the Stevens keeper and defenders to a ball and hammered it into the back of the net.

Spearfish SDU players Isai Rodriguez (Galaxy) and Trey Culver (Pacuca) both scored in their 2-3 loss to Lincoln.  Isai scored on a brilliant hit from the eighteen, as he beat two Lincoln defenders and placed the ball perfectly just under the crossbar.  Trey’s goal came on a corner kick.  The ball came in and it got like it does inside the six when a ball drops – crazy.  When Trey’s chance came he hit it.  The ball hit the bottom of the crossbar and went in.

In the Rapid City Stevens game Derek Beaumont (Pachuca) scored a well earned hat trick while adding an assist to his teammate Brennan Lytle (Pachuca).  Jayce Haefs (Copa) scored 2 more with one of them coming from an assist by his brother and teammate Jordon Haefs (Pachuca).

Maggie Smither (Legacy) not only was a rock between the pipes making several saves for her team SF Lincoln but she also scored a beautiful long midfield shot on a free kick making Maggie the only player last night to score a goal while making a save as well for her team.

In the Pierre vs Yankton game last night Cody Kuehl (Pachuca) scored for Pierre netting Pierre’s only goal on the night.  For Yankton freshman keeper Trevor Rafferty (Spurs) made several saves helping his team to the Quarter Final win.

Jordan Blocker (Pachuca) scored a goal for the Washington Warriors last night in their loss to top seeded Roosevelt.  Jordan scored on a pass in behind the defense that he outran the defense to and nicely slammed it past the Roosevelt keeper.

In “A” boys action last night freshman Carson Gehman (Spurs) scored the go ahead goal for his team, Hot Springs, as they won 3-1 against the home side Tea.  Carson got a beautifully laid pass from his teammate Davis which is calmly put into the net beating the keeper near post.

These players weren’t the only standouts for SDU last night.  There were several players who played who didn’t make the score sheet but still contributed to their teams success.  All in all, the SDU players showed very well last night and ALL season long for their perspective teams.  Great job all.
