SDU Chelsea wins Championship in Denver

SDU Chelsea in their first year as a team has had many “firsts” but none like the one they got in Denver!  After several good showings in KC and Sioux Falls they finally reached the Championship plateau by winning the Real Colorado Cup in Denver, CO.  The Chelsea boys came to Denver to play some good soccer against some great teams and they did just that, and much more.  Much like the Dynamo girls in their first match, the Chelsea boys had to pull out a tough fought first match, 2-1 over AUSC (NM).  After what was a great first game they then played a brilliant 2nd match against Pride FC (CO) winning that match 3-1.  Their 3rd match was against the home side Real Colorado Olympico Academy (CO) in which the boys went up 2-0 in the match before the home side got a late goal to make it a 2-1 match result.  Because of that result they automatically qualified for the championship match but still had one more to play against Fire FC Premier (CO).  In that final 4th match, the boys played a very relaxed style of soccer and cruised to a 4-0 victory.

In the Championship match the boys got matched up against a very tough side from Texas, Wildcats FC.  The Wildcats team on the year going into this match was a very impressive 22-2-1 outscoring their opponents on average 4-1 over that span.  The Chelsea boys though proved to be up to the task of playing this team and scored the only goal of the match off of a 30 yd bomb by midfielder Sekou G.  With such a potent offense there was going to be a need for the Chelsea defense to be as strong as they have been in any match this season.  The defense (Ty G, Jacari M, Devon F, Yohannes C and keeper Camden F) proved they were up to the task shutting out the Wildcats and leading SDU to a well earned 1-0 win and a huge Championship!

With the Championship the boys have now moved into the top 50 in Region II according to GotSoccer out of over 2000 ranked teams.  Next up for the Chelsea boys is the US Club Midwest Cup in Chicago where they will be playing in the U13 division!  Good luck boys at Regionals!
